Nanshan Group is a holding company comprising 40 subsidiaries which cover a wide range of industries in China and is the parent of Shandong Nanshan discussed above. The industries the Group is engaged in include textile, garment production, energy resources, construction, aluminium products, timber, furniture production, energy resources, hotel and resorts, and wine production. Textile and Construction remain the Group’s core business activities. Nanshan sells its large array of products in the domestic Chinese market. It also exports them throughout the world, with South East Asia being its major export destination. Nanshan Group’s head office is located at Longkou City in Shangdong Province covering an area of 80 square kilometres, with more than 36,000 employees and fixed assets of A$4,200 million. The Group boasts its own hospital and education centre, Nanshan Education Centre – providing kindergarten, junior school, secondary through to college education.

Nanshan’s long term business strategy is to harness its vast resources to create a leading brand in China. In addition, it has set in place an international expansion strategy to compliment its growth in China. The aluminium industry in China has been gaining importance as a support industry to the burgeoning construction industry as a consequence of accelerated economic growth in China.

The above demonstrates that Nanshan has made substantial planning and investments for its future development and growth strategies. However, to ensure success of these long-term goals, it is critical for Nanshan to secure long-term supply of raw materials and the relevant technological know-how from overseas.   To this end, Nanshan has conducted extensive research into various aluminium producing countries in the world. Research reports have concluded that Australia hold the largest and best quality of bauxite which would compliment the production of alumina at Nanshan’s refineries.
