Established in 1998, the Technical Center of Nanshan Group Company was recognized as a national-level technical center in 2008. It has departments including Office, Sci-tech Management Dept., Standardized Office, Military Industry and Secrecy Office, Quality Management System Certification Office, Environment Monitoring Station, HR Dept., Information Research Institute, Editing Dept. of Nanshan Science & Technology and Central Laboratory Room. It owns Shandong Nanshan Research Center of Science and Technology, Technology Research Center of Aluminum Alloy Processing Programs of Shandong Province and Technology Research Center of Functional Wool Textile Programs of Shandong Province. Besides, seven professional R&D centers are set up in Nanshan University and key enterprises under the company, including Materials Physics Research Institute, Automatic Control Research Institute, Chemical Metallurgy Research Institute, Special Profile Research Institute, High Precision Aluminum Strip Research Institute, High Performance Alloy Research Institute and Alumina Process Research Institute.

At present, the Technical Center of Nanshan Group Company has established long-term and stable cooperation relations of production, learning and research with many famous universities and research institutes, such as Tsinghua University, Central South University, Northeastern University, Metal Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing University of Technology, Shandong Institute of Science and Technology, Shandong University and Luoyang Nonferrous Metal Processing & Design Research Institute, etc. We have finished over 150 new product development and technical transformation programs, namely, large-scaled high-quality and ultra-thin aluminum alloy extrusions for 300Km/h high-speed trains, airspace seamless aluminum pipes, optimum 1850mm×0.005mm wide light gauge aluminum foils, full-diameter and multiple-specification round ingot casting, research of 180S/2 pure-wool ultra-thin fabrics, and processing technology research of cleanliness of machine-washable pure wool fabrics.

In recent years, the Technical Center makes full use of hi-tech industries of Nanshan Group and the strengths of multi-discipline, multi-specialty and high-rank talents of Nanshan University, and strengthens R&D so that they have promoted the speed of launching new products, accelerated the transformation of sci-tech achievements, widened the transmission channels of sci-tech information and provided scientific research staff with vast platforms of exchanges and learning. Currently, Nanshan Group Company has over 60 patents and over 10 provincial and municipal sci-tech progress prizes, the company has participated in drafting over 20 national standards and has undertaken many R&D programs such as one of the "Double Ten" programs of Yantai (giving priority to the development of 10 model innovative enterprises in the industrial sector and 10 in the agricultural and social development sectors in Yantai)----"Processing Technology and Product Research of High-Performance High-precision Wide Aluminum Strip of Large Coil", "Professional System Development of Aluminum Alloy Casting", a project with special fund of Shandong information industry development; "Processing Technology & Product Development of High-Performance High-Precision Wide Aluminum Alloy Strip of Large Coil- Body Materials of Pop Cans", a significant professional project of transforming independent innovation achievement of Shandong Province; "Hot Tandem Rolling Engineering Technology Research of High-Precision Aluminum Alloy Strip-PS Plate" under State Sci-tech Supporting Plan, "Optimum Ultra-thin Ultra-wide Light Gauge Aluminum Toil" under State Plan of Strengthening Trade through Science and Technology, "180S/2 High Count Ultra-thin Fabric" and "Optimum Large Aluminum Alloy Slab Ingots" under State Plan of Key New Products, "High Precision Wide Ultra-thin Aluminum Toil" under State Torch Plan, "Research of Initiating the Baking Technology of Large and Energy-efficient Pre-baked Aluminum Electrobath with Short Cycles" under State Scientific Cooperation Plan.

Currently, the Technical Center is endeavoring to establish a research station for post-doctorates so that their dependant research capacity can leap onto a new stage.
